Lessons in writing

All of today we have been under a tornado watch. Thankfully, we haven't had a storm yet and less than three hours till midnight when the watch, hopefully, ends and isn't continued. I spent some time outside writing earlier and I was working on Melissa's T.R (test run). I'm getting so very close to the closing for her backstory. It's really exciting. I started writing hers in August, picked it back up in November and have been writing hers since. Nearly 28 pages so far, and about 6 months in the making of writing. Originally, I had planned for her T.R to be like the character Krystal's which was only 3 pages and I wrote that in one night. However, the more expanded their stories are, the more I can come up with other parts of the story, including ideas for other characters, backgrounds, and scenes.

Melissa's T.R is all about lessons and how we rely on past experiences to help us through new ones.  God clearly has a hand in this because many of the lessons I have written down are lessons that I apply to my life, after writing it down. Melissa's background story is one of the hardest because she is born blind and she lives with a family who never showed her any affection. Yet, she earned the love of the village and one particular person who took over the parent role known as the musician. The musician was the first one to tell her about the Great One and since she's heard of the Great One she wants to meet the Great One. But the road to that isn't easy.

One of the first lessons I started applying, had to do with fear. When we become afraid, we often are consumed by fear and therefore become distracted by that fear. The distractions leave us unfocused to figure out what we must do to overcome the circumstance. In essence, fear is the last emotion that should be dwelt with but usually it's the first. Another, which was written today, applies to faith. God or the Great One as He is referenced in the story may lead us through deep waters but He will always have a hold on our hand. He has a plan for us but we must be the ones to choose to follow what He has in store for us. We are not robots and He does not want us to be automatic when it comes to faith nor should we ever try to force that belief down on anyone. It's suppose to be an uplifting choice, not despair.

One of the most interesting things with her background story, is because she is blind she does not focus on sight. Rather, she focuses on her other senses, a huge one being touch. She hasn't gotten too far in the story just yet to fully learn the purpose of her blindness. It's pretty much it has to do with so many people relying on sight as their main sense. People also use sight as a way to judge a person's character and by far that's the worst way to figure out a person. People can hide behind their face, but their movements, voice tone, and actions they cannot hide behind as well.

Her backstory is a reminder that even in darkness there can still be a light. When I first started to write more in her T.R today, I was nervous about the potential storms. But just like in my story, the Great One asked Melissa, "Can you have courage even in your time of fear?" I wanted to have courage even in my time of fear. It's about standing while your legs shake from fear and facing whatever the situation is head on. I'm learning that, along with my character, with my uncertainties in life.

Earlier I was thinking, if you knew this would be your last day on Earth would you do anything differently? I was at the time playing candy crush. Part of me was thinking maybe and then another part of me wasn't so sure. Despite what we want to think, you cannot change the world in a day. However, you can make better use of the time you're given by make each day count. My writing is a big part of my life because God gave me the ability and I want Him to be glorified through it.

Less than an hour now for the watch to be over. There is still much good in life. Take out the cities, the buildings, and even the people and you will see still the beauty of nature. Sometimes in its fury and rage but nonetheless phenomenal. Be safe my friends!
